Position Description:
University of California Davis Health is in need of an experienced contractor with the skills and background to develop and devise solutions that meet the reporting and analytical needs of UC Davis Health and its Research community.
The Clinical Informatics Specialist reports to the Supervisor of Research Data Fulfillment within the Health Informatics department at UC Davis Health. The Clinical Informatics Specialist works with research teams and data acquisition and architecture teams to establish and document procedures to extract data sets from various Epic relational databases (Clarity and Caboodle) as well as UC Davis OMOP data warehouses. This process includes working with several different teams to build a process, gather requirements, data retrieval, validation and curation, developing queries for data extraction, and training staff on the process. Projects may require de-identification of data.
This position will work on data management applications, which include SSIS, Java, Microsoft .NET, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, various open-source applications, Crystal Reports, and select interface engines.
Requirements:
--Minimum 3 years of experience in the analysis, retrieval, and management of clinical data from a healthcare software system.
--Minimum of 1 year of experience working with standardized healthcare codes (e.g., ICD, CPT, LOINC, SNOMED).
--Experience training technical solutions to technical and non-technical staff.
--Familiar with analytics life cycle and documenting the process using various resources (Git, Collibra, etc.).
--Exceptional project management including requirements gathering, documentation, establishing outcomes and monitoring progress while providing ample documentation at each step.
--Proficiency in Oracle Structured Query Language (SQL) and Microsoft SQL.
--Clarity Data Model certification.
--Prior experience with clinical data retrieval and research projects.
--Experience with various office software tools such as Microsoft Project, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
--Mastery of data warehousing and the Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) process
-- OMOP experience a plus.
--Exemplary analytical skills to develop and/or comprehend complex technical, clinical, and fiscal information; ability to absorb information to make timely and sound decisions.
--Demonstrated experience translating customer requirements into technical specifications and documentation.
--Excellent organizational skills to determine and prioritize workload to enable timely completion of tasks as well as formally documenting meta data and checking code.
--Identify and communicate problems in a collaborative, professional manner.
--Ability to deal with highly confidential, secured, and financial matters, practical application of HIPAA and privacy rules a plus.
--Comfortable working independently with minimal direction in a dynamic and diverse environment.
--Experience with programming languages such as XML, Python, J2EE, VBA, Shell Script, Pentaho, etc.
Responsibilities:
--Requirements gathering and development of project specifications.
--Data retrieval from a variety of clinical and financial data sources.
--Validation and curation of datasets based on specifications.
--Developing SQL queries for data extraction.
--Secure file sharing.
-- Manage work in ServiceNow and provide weekly status updates to supervisor.
--Provide technical expertise and consultation to IT Health Informatics Team.
--Participate or lead meetings with stakeholders. Document main points, issues and key decisions.
--Develop understanding of workflows to assist with report design and development.
--Provide documentation and training to transfer knowledge and operational support to IT Health Informatics team.
--Supports project effort by providing technical support, troubleshoot issues, resolves system problems, provide updates to staff and administration on implementation status.
--Create and documenting a process for fulfilling research data request by developing a process to garner data from an OMOP data warehouse. The process will be trained to staff in similar roles.
